MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS LEADERSHIP SUMMIT – Tuesdsay, November 7th, 2023

The National Football Foundation Toledo /Wistert Chapter board of directors are inviting your high school Principal, Athletic Director, School Counselor, or a Head Coach from one of the teams and 4 student athletes to a very important Mental Health Awareness program.

On NOVEMBER 7, 2023, The Toledo Chapter of the National Football Foundation is hosting a Mental Health Awareness Leadership Summit. Representatives from 56 High Schools from within the NW Ohio and lower SE Michigan area will be attending.

The purpose of this summit is to elevate the awareness of mental health in high school student athletes and coaches by identifying the underlying causes and providing a channel for student athletes (parents) and coaches to seek – and find – help and support with the goal of building a healthy mind for those challenged by mental health concerns and those that can help. Attendees will be provided with information and resources to build life skills and values for success and learn how to deal with emotional issues on and off the field to become a Mental Health Champion to help others.

Invited From Each High School:

  • (4) Varsity athletes (2 Juniors and 2 Seniors) representing a good cross that would be good section of CO-ED student-athletes. These student- athletes will serve as Mental Health Awareness Champions at each of their respective high school throughout the school year. The student-athletes that attend should be selected by the Principal or Athletic Director.
  • Two high school staff members – one School Counselor; and one from either the Principal, Athletic Director, or Head Coach from one of your teams.

NEEDED

Submission of names for the 4 student-athletes and 2 high school staff members that you will be sending to attend from your high school. The attendees names must be submitted and registered by September 22nd.

TIME: 8:30 am – 1:30 pm
(Registration and check-in opens at 7:45 am). A Continental Breakfast
and Boxed-Lunch and Refreshments will be Provided.

  • 8:40am Mental Health Overview – Dr. Lurley Archambeau, Board Certified Psychiatrist
  • 9:00am Keynote Speaker – Todd Crandell, President & Founder of Racing for
    Recovery, LPCC,LICDC. Todd has completed 110 IRONMAN competitions all
    over the world and has turned a past addiction into a dedicated business of
    counseling others with addiction and metal health challenges towards recovery.
  • 10:00am Break
  • 10:15am Bullying / Cyber-bullying – Samantha Boyle, Exec Director, Campaign for Kindness
  • 10:50am Suicide Prevention – Dr. Lisa Pescara-Kovacs, PH.D University of Toledo
  • 11:25am LUNCH – Boxed Lunch /water (Table Discussion during lunch)
  • 12:00pm Substance Abuse – Keary Sarabia, CEO/President, RFS Behavioral Health
  • 12:35pm Mental Health Awareness for the Injured Athlete (and parents) Bella Johnson, Owner Palmyra Performance, Sports Psychology, Certified Mental Health Performance Consultant
  • 1:10pm Closing Remarks – Discuss $1500 Scholarship Application
